We live in a society that could reasonably described as obsessed with technology. Technological solutions are usually promoted as the way forward (almost regardless of what the problem is!) In such a or 'techno-fix' society, it is important to stress other ways forward - changes in behaviour, cultural changes, new thinking and values. However, technology does have a lot to offer, and it would be foolish not to make use of the best of science and technology.
