Food For Life

Course Type:
Specialist
Summary:

Focus on the healing qualities of foods and discover some local and seasonal ‘superfoods’.
Experienced medical herbalist Kate Butler will explore the role of particular foods and diets for common health problems such as obesity, arthritis, syndrome x (a pre-diabetic state) and inflammation (as an underlying factor in many health problems), as well as considering the health issues of those present. The day will cover spices, berry fruits, bitter greens and roots, the cruciferous vegetables as well as fats, nuts and seeds and debunk the idea that only exotic foods have certain medicinal properties. Kate will discuss broader medicinal properties of certain foods and provide recipe ideas for incorporating them into the diet on a regular basis. The pros and cons of meat and fish will be discussed but the course would be very suitable for vegetarians and vegans too.
